Pumped to become a fitness trainer?

Fitness TrainerLike sports? Like helping people? Love the idea of becoming a fitness trainer one day? There are a lot of people outthere wanting to lose weight and get in better shape, so self-employed personal trainers are pretty popular these days. There are also a gazillion sports teams, hospitals, and fitness centers worldwide who keep fitness trainers on the payroll.

There’s an entire industry dedicated to helping people get healthier and more physically fit, and this industry is growing bigger and bigger by the minute.

If you’re interested in this line of work, there are tons of fitness trainers here in PEI. You might want to bend one of their ears (not literally—they probably wouldn’t want to help you then) to learn about training, finding work, salary expectations, and anything else you want to know about what trainers do.

Don’t get any big ideas about trying to make some extra money by training your friends without the proper training. This story from the Guardian explains why.

If you wish to pursue a career in this industry, there’s a two-year sports & leisure management program offered by Holland College that will help you prepare.

If you became a personal trainer, would you rather work for yourself or be employed by a larger company? Why?
