Stop bullying! There’s an app for that.

There’s been an awful lot of talk of bullying in the news and on social media over the past few days, after the tragic death of BC teen, Amanda Todd.

Bullying needs to stop, but one of the big problems with bullying is that the bullied individual is terrified to seek help for fear of getting it even worse from the bully.

An amazing new app, developed by an Island entrepreneur might just put an end to that problem.

Wayd McNally has developed some cool products over the years, but BullyTag has really captured our interest. It’s an app that lets bullied kids get help anonymously. We’re pretty proud to be Islanders today.

BullyTag™ aims to stop bullying.

The following is the company’s mission statement and it was taken directly from the bullytag.com website:

To empower bystanders and victims of bullying with modern technology which safely and anonymously reports bullying information to administrators and school officials. We provide bystanders and victims with a free mobile application to capture bullying incidents and report to authorities. Authorities can gain access to the BullyTag web-based dashboard to view key information regarding specific incidents of bullying.

Information submitted to administrators is anonymous, secure, and tamper proof. Images, audio clips, videos, and text messages are removed from the app automatically to ensure safety of students and reliability of content.

Bully-stopping tools

BullyTag allows bystanders to capture photo, video, and audio so they can anonymously report these instances to officials in real time. That’s some pretty powerful stuff and we feel every school everywhere should be on board with this project.

You can follow @bullytag on Twitter and like BullyTag on Facebook.

Let’s all stand up against bullies for once and for all!

More

The idea to create an app to help bullied teens came from McNally’s own experiences with bullying, from episodes within his family, and through building a family of his own. BullyTag went into development in 2011 and the app is now available as a free download in the iTunes App Store. It will also be available on Android October 19.

  1. Jamie, thanks so much for the post. We have resolved the iOS6 download issue and this has been resubmitted to the App store for approval. This can take 5-7 days and we expect this upgrade will be available next week. Thank you for your input.
